Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off electrical power to the softener and close the main water supply if you will be opening any plumbing connections. Depressurize by opening a nearby cold-water faucet.
Step-by-step:
- 1. Check bypass position: Verify the Rayne bypass valve is in the SERVICE position (not BYPASS). Move the handles or knobs fully to SERVICE and ensure they are not stuck mid-position.
- 2. Confirm house water pressure: Open a cold faucet upstream of the softener. If there is no water, restore main water supply or correct any shutoff valves before troubleshooting the softener.
- 3. Inspect inlet screen: On many Rayne control valves, there is a small inlet screen or filter at the valve body. Shut off water, relieve pressure, remove the inlet fitting, and gently pull and rinse the screen under running water. Reinstall carefully, ensuring O-rings are seated.
- 4. Check for kinks or blockages: Inspect copper, PEX, or flex connectors leading into the Rayne control valve. Straighten any kinks and ensure no debris is lodged in fittings.
- 5. Restore power and test: Turn power back on, return unit to SERVICE, and initiate a manual regeneration. If E01 persists, the internal flow sensor or control valve may require professional service.
When to call a technician: If water pressure is normal and the inlet screen is clear but E01 remains, the internal inlet flow sensor or valve body may be defective and should be inspected by a qualified Rayne technician.
