Possible Causes
Stuck open brine refill valve in SoftPro head, Faulty brine float assembly, Cracked brine line causing siphon failure, Incorrect brine refill programming
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the softener and close the inlet valve before working on the brine system. Brine is corrosive; wear gloves and eye protection.
- 1. Stop overflow: Place the softener in bypass using the SoftPro bypass valve. Use a small pump or container to remove excess brine from the tank to below the normal level.
- 2. Inspect brine float: Remove the brine well cover and lift the float assembly. Ensure the float rod moves freely and the shutoff valve at the bottom is not jammed open with salt or debris. Clean and reassemble.
- 3. Check brine line connections: Verify the brine line is firmly connected at both the valve and float assembly. Replace any cracked or hardened tubing that may prevent proper shutoff.
- 4. Verify refill settings: Enter the programming menu and confirm the brine refill time or volume matches SoftPro specifications for your grain capacity. Excessive refill time can cause overfill.
- 5. Inspect brine refill valve: If the tank continues to fill even when the unit is idle, the internal brine refill valve or piston in the SoftPro control head may be leaking and require a piston/seal kit replacement.
