Possible Causes
Failed position switch or encoder on valve, Misaligned cam gear, Broken cam follower, Loose encoder wiring to SoftPro control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and close water valves before opening the valve head. Depressurize the system.
- 1. Observe valve movement: Start a regeneration and watch the cam/gear assembly (with cover removed). If the motor turns but the controller never recognizes position changes, the encoder or switch is suspect.
- 2. Check wiring: Locate the position sensor or encoder on the SoftPro valve. Ensure its connector is fully seated on the control board and the cable is not pinched or damaged.
- 3. Inspect cam alignment: Verify that the cam is properly seated on the drive shaft and that any alignment marks match the service position. Realign if necessary per the SoftPro service manual.
- 4. Test sensor: If you have a multimeter, check the sensor for continuity or pulse output while manually rotating the cam. If no change is detected, replace the position switch/encoder.
- 5. Replace sensor or cam: Install a new SoftPro position sensor/encoder and, if worn, a new cam gear. Reassemble, restore water and power, and run a full regeneration to confirm normal operation.
