Possible Causes
Failed temperature sensor on control board, Softener installed on hot water line, Ambient temperature exceeding rating, Shorted sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before inspecting wiring. Do not connect a softener to a hot water line.
- 1. Confirm plumbing: Verify that the SoftPro softener is installed on the cold water supply line only. If connected to hot water, it must be replumbed immediately; high temperatures can damage the resin and valve.
- 2. Check ambient conditions: Ensure the unit is not installed in direct sunlight or near a heat source (boiler, furnace) that raises the control head temperature above specifications.
- 3. Inspect sensor wiring: Remove the control cover and locate the temperature sensor (if external) or its connector on the board. Check for loose, pinched, or damaged wires. Reseat the connector.
- 4. Power cycle: Allow the unit to cool if hot, then unplug for 5 minutes and reconnect. If E10 returns immediately, the sensor or board is likely faulty.
- 5. Replace sensor or board: Replace the SoftPro temperature sensor (if separate) or the main control board if the sensor is integrated and not serviceable.
