E17
SoftPro Capacity / Overuse Fault

SoftPro softener shows E17 and regeneration is skipped due to excessive water usage or capacity error.

Possible Causes

Incorrect hardness or capacity settings, Extremely high water usage exceeding design, Flow meter miscalibration, Resin bed fouling reducing capacity

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: No special safety steps beyond normal electrical precautions are required for programming checks.

  • 1. Verify hardness setting: Compare your actual water hardness (from a test kit or lab report) to the value programmed in the SoftPro controller. Adjust to the correct grains per gallon.
  • 2. Check capacity setting: Ensure the grain capacity programmed matches the size of your SoftPro softener (e.g., 32,000, 48,000 grains). Incorrect capacity can cause premature or delayed regenerations.
  • 3. Review water usage: Look at the usage history on the display (if available). If usage has spiked due to guests, irrigation, or leaks, address the cause.
  • 4. Inspect flow meter: Clean and verify the flow meter/turbine as described for E05 to ensure accurate metering.
  • 5. Resin condition: If capacity seems low despite correct settings and normal usage, the resin may be fouled with iron or hardness. Consider a resin cleaner treatment or resin replacement.
