Possible Causes
Drive motor stalling mid-cycle, Excessive backpressure on drain line, Jammed piston or seals, Control board timing error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and close water valves before opening the valve head or working on the drain line.
- 1. Check drain line: Ensure the drain hose is not kinked, elevated too high, or blocked. Clear any obstructions and verify a free flow to drain.
- 2. Listen for motor strain: During regeneration, listen for the drive motor. If it hums but does not move the cam, the piston may be jammed or the motor weak.
- 3. Inspect piston and seals: With water off and pressure relieved, remove the SoftPro valve head cover and access the piston assembly. Look for scoring, swelling, or debris. Replace the piston and seal/spacer kit if worn or damaged.
- 4. Verify correct programming: Ensure cycle times (backwash, brine draw, rinse) are within SoftPro specifications. Extremely long or short times can cause perceived timeouts.
- 5. Replace motor or board: If mechanical parts are free and drain is clear, but E20 persists, replace the drive motor and, if needed, the control board.
