Possible Causes
Failed drive motor, Jammed piston or cam, Faulty position switch/encoder, Control board not advancing cycle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Continuous drain flow can waste large amounts of water. Place the unit in bypass and unplug it before servicing.
- 1. Stop water loss: Move the SoftPro bypass valve to Bypass to stop flow through the unit. This will not stop drain flow if the valve is stuck mid-position, so also close the inlet shutoff if needed.
- 2. Inspect drive mechanism: Remove the control cover and observe the motor, cam, and piston while briefly powering the unit and attempting to advance the cycle. If nothing moves, suspect the motor or board.
- 3. Check for mechanical jam: With power off and water pressure relieved, try to rotate the cam by hand. If it is seized, remove and inspect the piston and seals for debris or damage. Replace with a SoftPro piston and seal kit if necessary.
- 4. Test position sensor: Ensure the position switch/encoder is properly aligned and wired. Replace if it does not signal position changes.
- 5. Replace motor or board: If the valve moves freely by hand but not under power, replace the drive motor and, if needed, the control board.
