Possible Causes

Insufficient rinse time programmed, High drain line backpressure, Clogged drain line flow control, Incorrect brine concentration or overfilling

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Salty water is unpleasant but not typically hazardous. However, high sodium intake may be a concern for some individuals.

  • 1. Run extra rinse: Manually initiate a regeneration and, if your SoftPro model allows, extend the rinse cycle or run an additional fast rinse to flush residual brine.
  • 2. Check drain line: Ensure the drain hose is not kinked or restricted and that the drain line flow control is clean. Backpressure can reduce rinse effectiveness.
  • 3. Verify programming: Confirm that backwash and rinse times meet or exceed SoftPro recommendations for your tank size and resin volume.
  • 4. Inspect brine settings: Ensure brine refill time is not excessively long, which can create overly strong brine. Adjust to the recommended setting.
  • 5. Service valve internals: If salty water persists, the internal valve may not be fully shifting to rinse positions due to worn pistons or seals. Replace the SoftPro piston and seal kit.
