Display shows “Err 06” and brine draw step does not complete

Safety: Place the softener in bypass and disconnect power. Wear gloves and eye protection when working around salt and brine.

Steps:

• 1. Check brine level: Ensure there is adequate water in the brine tank and that salt is not forming a solid bridge above the water.
• 2. Inspect brine line: Follow the brine line from the control valve to the brine tank. Look for kinks, pinched sections, or leaks at fittings. Straighten or replace tubing as needed.
• 3. Clean injector/venturi: Remove the injector/venturi assembly from the Sterling valve (usually under a cap on the valve body). Disassemble and soak parts in warm water with a small amount of vinegar to dissolve iron and scale. Use a soft brush or toothpick to clear small orifices—do not enlarge them.
• 4. Check brine valve: Inspect the brine valve and float assembly in the brine well. Make sure the float moves freely and the valve is not stuck closed by salt or debris.
• 5. Reassemble and test draw: Reinstall the injector and brine line. Take the unit out of bypass, restore power, and start a manual regeneration. During brine draw, observe the brine level in the tank—it should slowly drop. If not, recheck for air leaks or a defective brine valve.
• 6. Replace parts if needed: If cleaning does not restore function, replace the injector/venturi kit and/or brine valve assembly.
