Possible Causes

Incorrect flow meter installation direction, Air-locked plumbing, Failed flow sensor, Control board misreading sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Shut off water and relieve pressure before removing the flow meter or valve connections.

Steps:

  • 1. Verify plumbing: Confirm that the Sterling softener inlet and outlet are not reversed. Check the arrows on the valve body and flow meter.
  • 2. Bleed air: With the unit in bypass, open several faucets to purge air from the lines. Then slowly return the softener to service and check for flow indication on the display.
  • 3. Inspect flow meter orientation: Ensure the flow meter is installed in the correct direction and is not upside down or tilted excessively.
  • 4. Check sensor connection: Remove the control cover and verify the flow sensor harness is fully seated on the board and at the sensor.
  • 5. Replace sensor if needed: If plumbing is correct and no flow is registered despite water usage, replace the flow sensor/flow meter assembly.
