Salt Level Sensor Fault

Possible Causes
Defective salt level sensor, Disconnected sensor harness, Salt bridging above sensor, Corroded sensor contacts
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the softener before working with any electrical sensor. Wear gloves when handling salt.
Steps:
- 1. Break salt bridges: Use a broom handle or similar tool to gently push down into the salt in the brine tank. If you feel a hollow space under a hard crust, break the bridge so salt falls into the water.
- 2. Locate salt sensor: Some Sterling models use a salt level probe or float in the brine tank. Inspect it for encrusted salt or mechanical obstruction.
- 3. Clean sensor: Remove the sensor or float assembly and soak in warm water to dissolve salt buildup. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
- 4. Check wiring: Follow the sensor cable to the control head. Ensure the connector is fully seated and not corroded.
- 5. Replace sensor if needed: If Err 11 persists after cleaning and reconnecting, replace the salt level sensor assembly.
