Possible Causes
Stuck brine float, Leaking brine valve, Incorrect refill setting, Blocked brine drain
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and close the inlet valve. Be prepared for possible brine spillage; protect nearby flooring.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect brine level: If water is near the top of the brine tank, manually bail out excess brine into a suitable container.
- 2. Check float assembly: Remove the brine well cover and verify the float moves freely up and down. Clean any salt sludge or debris that may be jamming it.
- 3. Inspect brine valve: Examine the brine valve at the bottom of the brine well. If it is leaking or not closing fully, replace the brine valve assembly.
- 4. Verify refill settings: Enter programming mode and confirm the brine refill time and flow are set according to Sterling specifications for your model.
- 5. Check brine drain: Ensure the brine overflow and drain lines are not blocked or frozen.
- 6. Test operation: After corrections, run a regeneration and monitor the brine level to ensure it rises only to the normal operating height.
