Softener emits unusual odors from brine tank (rotten egg or musty smell)

Safety: Wear gloves and eye protection when cleaning the brine tank. Brine can irritate skin and eyes.

Steps:

• 1. Empty brine tank: Scoop out salt and pump or bail out remaining brine.
• 2. Clean tank: Wash the inside with a mild bleach solution (about 1/4 cup bleach per gallon of water). Scrub surfaces and rinse thoroughly.
• 3. Clean float assembly: Remove and clean the brine float and well with the same solution, then rinse.
• 4. Refill with quality salt: Use high-purity solar or pellet salt recommended by Sterling.
• 5. Run regeneration: Start a manual regeneration to flush the system.
