Possible Causes
Damaged tank O-ring, Cracked valve body, Loose plumbing fittings, Cracked mineral tank neck
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Immediately place the softener in bypass and shut off water if leak is severe. Depressurize before tightening or replacing parts.
Steps:
- 1. Dry and inspect: Wipe the area dry and observe where water reappears to pinpoint the leak source.
- 2. Tighten fittings: Check all threaded connections on the Sterling valve and bypass. Tighten gently; do not overtighten plastic fittings.
- 3. Check tank O-ring: If water seeps from the tank neck, remove the valve head and inspect the large O-ring. Replace the tank O-ring if flattened or damaged.
- 4. Inspect for cracks: Look for hairline cracks in the valve body or tank neck. If found, replace the valve body or mineral tank as appropriate.
- 5. Test under pressure: Reassemble, pressurize slowly, and recheck for leaks.
