Possible Causes
Jammed piston or rotor, Failed valve motor, Broken drive yoke or cam, Control board not advancing cycle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Immediately place the softener in bypass to stop water waste. Unplug the unit before opening the valve head.
Steps:
- 1. Confirm drain flow: Check the drain hose; if water is constantly flowing, the valve is stuck in a regen position.
- 2. Attempt manual advance: Use the control panel to manually advance through regeneration steps. If it will not move, suspect mechanical binding.
- 3. Inspect drive assembly: Remove the control cover and check the motor, cam, and drive yoke for damage.
- 4. Check piston and seals: Remove the motor and manually move the piston. If it is seized, rebuild the valve with a seal and spacer kit and inspect the piston.
- 5. Replace motor or board: If the valve moves freely by hand but not under power, replace the valve motor. If the motor never receives power, the main control board may be faulty.
