Possible Causes

Low incoming mains voltage, Failed Tapworks control PCB, Loose control harness connector, Internal control board fuse open

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the Tapworks softener from mains power before removing any covers. Water may be present inside the cabinet; keep electrical parts dry.

  • Check mains supply: Verify the wall socket has 230 V (or local standard). Try another appliance in the same outlet. If the outlet is dead, reset the breaker or contact an electrician.
  • Inspect power lead and plug: Look for damage, kinks, or burn marks on the Tapworks power cord. Replace the cord if damaged.
  • Reset the control: Unplug the softener for 5 minutes, then plug back in. Re‑enter the time and hardness settings according to the Tapworks user manual and see if E1 clears.
  • Check control board connections: Remove the front cover, then carefully remove the control panel. Inspect the low‑voltage harness from the transformer to the control PCB and from the PCB to the motor and sensors. Reseat each connector firmly.
  • Inspect transformer (if external): Feel the transformer; if it is very hot or smells burnt, it may be faulty. Measure output voltage with a multimeter and compare to the rating on the label.
  • If E1 persists: The Tapworks control PCB is likely defective. Replacement of the control board should be done by a qualified technician to ensure correct wiring and programming.
