Possible Causes
Blocked drain line, Restricted drain elbow on Tapworks valve, Clogged drain flow control, Drain hose installed too high above softener
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power and close the inlet valve. Be prepared for water discharge when disconnecting the drain line.
- Inspect drain hose: Follow the hose from the softener to the drain. Remove any kinks, loops, or sags that could trap water. Ensure the end is not submerged.
- Check height and length: Verify the drain line does not exceed the maximum height and length specified by Tapworks. Excessive height can prevent proper drainage.
- Clean drain elbow and flow control: Disconnect the hose at the valve. Remove the drain elbow and flow control insert. Rinse out any debris or scale under running water.
- Flush the line: Run water through the drain hose with a garden hose or tap to clear blockages.
- Reassemble and test: Reconnect everything securely, restore water and power, and run a manual regeneration. Observe the drain flow during backwash and brine rinse. If E12 persists, the internal drain port or valve body may be obstructed and the valve head may need replacement.
