Salt Bridging / Salt Mushing
Salt level in brine tank does not seem to decrease over time
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Salt bridge forming above water level, Use of fine or damp salt causing mushing, High humidity in installation area, Infrequent regeneration cycles
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Wear gloves and eye protection. Do not strike the tank hard enough to crack it.
- Check for bridge: Push a broom handle straight down into the salt. If you hit a hard layer and then a hollow space before water, you have a salt bridge.
- Break the bridge: Gently tap and push the crust to break it up so salt falls into the water below.
- Remove salt mush: If the bottom of the tank is filled with a thick paste, scoop it out with a plastic container and dispose of it. Rinse the tank and refill with fresh tablet salt.
- Improve conditions: Use high‑purity tablet salt recommended by Tapworks, keep the lid closed, and avoid overfilling the tank.
