Tapworks
Water Hammer / Rapid Valve Operation
Tapworks softener makes loud banging or hammering noises during regeneration
Advertisements
Possible Causes
High water pressure, Sudden valve closure in Tapworks head, Lack of water hammer arrestor, Loose plumbing near softener
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Sudden pressure surges can damage plumbing. If pipes move violently, consider shutting off water and consulting a plumber.
- Check inlet pressure: Measure pressure at a nearby tap. If above Tapworks maximum, install or adjust a pressure reducing valve.
- Secure pipework: Clamp or strap loose pipes near the softener to prevent movement.
- Install hammer arrestor: Fit a water hammer arrestor on the line feeding the softener if hammer persists.
- Verify valve operation: If the noise seems internal to the valve and occurs at specific stages, the rotor disc or seals may be worn and snapping shut. Inspect and replace the Tapworks rotor disc and seal kit if necessary.
