Possible Causes
Exhausted or fouled Tapworks resin bed, Incorrect hardness setting, Bypass valve left partially or fully open, Brine not being drawn during regeneration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Use caution when lifting the brine tank lid and handling salt or chemicals.
- Check bypass position: Ensure the Tapworks bypass valve is in the 'Service' position, not 'Bypass'. A partially open bypass can mix hard and soft water.
- Test hardness: Use a hardness test kit on water before and after the softener. If both are similar, the softener is not exchanging ions effectively.
- Verify regeneration: Confirm the unit is regenerating at the programmed time. Listen for water flow to drain and watch the display during a scheduled regeneration.
- Inspect brine draw: During regeneration, check that the brine level in the tank drops. If it does not, clean the injector and brine line as described in brine draw faults.
- Adjust hardness setting: If the hardness is set too low, the unit will regenerate too late. Set the hardness to match your water test results.
- If resin is old or heavily fouled: Replace the Tapworks ion exchange resin with the correct specification media.
