Possible Causes
Collapsed resin bed, Plugged distributor tube, Jammed piston in closed position, Severe sediment buildup in valve body
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately place the softener in BYPASS to restore water to the home. Shut off power before servicing.
- Check for recent work: If resin was recently replaced or the unit was moved, the distributor tube may be misaligned or blocked.
- Inspect control valve: Remove the control head from the mineral tank. Look down into the tank to ensure the distributor tube is centered and not crushed.
- Check for resin in valve: If resin beads are present in the valve body, the bottom screen or distributor tube may be damaged. Clean out all resin from the valve.
- Backwash the tank: Manually initiate a backwash (with the head reinstalled) to flush sediment and fines from the resin bed, watching the drain line for heavy discharge.
- Replace damaged components: If the distributor tube or bottom screen is cracked, replace the distributor tube assembly. If the resin bed is collapsed or heavily fouled, replace the resin.
