Possible Causes
Insufficient rinse time, High brine concentration, Stuck brine valve or air check, Incorrect drain flow control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not drink water that tastes strongly of salt until the issue is resolved.
- Check cycle settings: Verify that the rinse and backwash times are set to Tier1 specifications. Increase final rinse time if adjustable.
- Inspect brine valve and air check: Ensure the air check at the bottom of the brine well closes properly at the end of brine draw, preventing air from entering the resin tank.
- Verify drain flow control: Check that the drain flow control (DLFC) button is the correct size for your softener. An undersized DLFC can reduce rinse flow, leaving salt in the resin.
- Run extra rinse: Manually advance the unit to a rinse cycle and let it run longer than normal to flush excess salt.
- Adjust salt dosage: If the salt dose is set very high, reduce it to Tier1-recommended levels for your hardness and capacity.
