Possible Causes

Drive motor failure, Jammed piston or seals, Position switch fault, Control board timing error

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit and close the inlet valve. Depressurize before opening the valve head.

  • Attempt manual advance: Use the REGEN or ADVANCE button to step through cycles. If the valve does not move, suspect a motor or mechanical jam.
  • Inspect motor and gears: Remove the cover and check the drive motor and gear train for damage or obstructions. Replace any stripped gears or failed motor.
  • Check piston and seals: Remove the piston and seal pack. Inspect for swelling, scoring, or debris that could cause binding. Replace with a US Water Systems piston/seal kit if worn.
  • Verify position switch: Ensure the position switch or encoder is properly aligned and functioning (see ERR2).
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall components, restore water and power, and run a full manual regeneration to confirm normal operation.
