Brine Tank Leak
Water leaks from the brine tank onto the floor
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Cracked brine tank, Leaking brine line connection, Overflow from overfill condition, Damaged brine well
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Shut off water to the softener and unplug it. Saltwater can damage floors; clean up promptly.
- Locate the leak: Dry the outside of the brine tank and observe where water appears. Check around the brine line bulkhead fitting and the bottom of the tank.
- Check fittings: Tighten the brine line nut at the tank and inspect the grommet or bulkhead fitting. Replace if cracked or deteriorated.
- Inspect tank body: Look for cracks, especially near the bottom seam. If the tank is cracked, replace the brine tank; do not attempt structural repairs.
- Address overfill causes: If the tank is simply overfilled from a control issue, correct the brine overfill problem (see Brine Tank Overfill) and remove excess water.
