Possible Causes
Blocked drain hose, Kinked drain line, Drain air gap blocked, Internal drain port obstruction in valve head
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. Close inlet valve and open a tap to relieve pressure before disconnecting the drain line.
- Inspect drain hose: Follow the drain hose from the softener to the drain point. Straighten any kinks and ensure the hose is not crushed or frozen.
- Check air gap / trap: If an air gap or trap is installed, remove and clean it. Clear any sludge or scale buildup.
- Flush drain port: Remove the drain line from the valve head. Briefly open the inlet valve slightly to flush the drain port into a bucket (be prepared for water flow). Close the valve again.
- Clean internal passages: If flow is still restricted, the internal drain port or backwash channel may be blocked. Remove the valve head and clean according to the service manual.
- Test regeneration: Reconnect the drain line securely, restore water and power, and run a manual regeneration. Monitor the drain flow; it should be strong and steady during backwash and rinse.
