Possible Causes
Valve motor not reaching end position, Position sensor not signaling completion, Control board timing error, Internal mechanical jam
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Place the softener in bypass to restore water service, then disconnect power before opening the valve head.
- Attempt manual advance: With power restored, try to manually advance the cycle using the control panel. If it will not advance, suspect a mechanical or sensor issue.
- Inspect motor and cam: Remove the valve head cover and check that the motor and cam move freely. Look for broken gears or obstructions.
- Check position sensor: Ensure the sensor is correctly aligned and connected. Replace if it does not change state as the cam rotates.
- Examine internal parts: Disassemble the valve head and inspect pistons and seals for damage or debris that could prevent full travel.
- Replace faulty components: Install a new Viessmann valve motor assembly or seal kit as needed. If the problem persists, the control board may be at fault.
