Water softener leaks from the brine tank or around the brine well

Safety first: Disconnect power. There is usually low pressure in the brine tank, but avoid spilling brine on electrical components.

• Locate leak: Inspect the brine tank walls, base, and brine well for visible cracks or wet areas.
• Check brine well seal: Ensure the brine well tube is firmly seated and the grommet is intact. Replace the grommet if it is hardened or cracked.
• Inspect float and overflow: Verify that the float shuts off water at the correct level and that any overflow hose is properly routed to a drain.
• Tighten fittings: Check the brine line connections at the tank and valve head. Tighten or replace compression fittings as needed.
• Replace tank if cracked: If the brine tank is cracked, replace it with a compatible Viessmann brine tank assembly.
