Possible Causes
Stalled drive motor, Jammed rotor and disc assembly, Broken cam gear, Faulty motor position feedback to control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the softener before opening the valve cover. Shut off water and relieve pressure using the bypass valve if you will be working on the valve body.
- Listen for motor: Plug the unit back in and manually start a regeneration. If the motor hums but the cam does not turn, unplug immediately to avoid damage.
- Inspect drive assembly: Remove the top cover and the valve cover. Check the drive motor, cam gear, and rotor & disc assembly for broken teeth, binding, or foreign debris.
- Check wiring: Ensure the motor harness is firmly connected to the control board and not damaged.
- Free the cam: If the cam is stuck due to mineral buildup, clean the rotor & disc surfaces and the valve cavity with a soft brush and water. Do not use petroleum-based lubricants; use only silicone-based lubricant approved for potable water if needed.
- Test again: Reassemble, restore power, and run a manual regeneration. If E2 returns and the motor does not move, the motor or control board may need replacement.
