Possible Causes
Failed keypad membrane, Loose ribbon cable between keypad and control board, Moisture intrusion into display panel, Damaged control board input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the transformer before removing the control cover.
- Inspect keypad cable: Remove the front/control cover and locate the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board. Reseat both ends firmly.
- Check for moisture: Look for condensation or water around the display. If present, dry thoroughly and correct any leaks from the valve or plumbing above the unit.
- Test buttons: With power restored, press each button firmly. If none respond and E5 remains, the keypad membrane is likely defective.
- Replace keypad or control module: On some WaterBoss models, the keypad is integrated with the control board; on others it is separate. Replace the faulty component following the model-specific instructions.
