WaterBoss softener emits a rotten egg or sulfur smell from treated water

Safety: Do not consume water with strong sulfur or rotten egg odor until it is tested and treated.

• Test raw water: Check if the odor is present in water before the softener. If so, additional treatment (e.g., oxidizing filter) may be required.
• Sanitize softener: Follow WaterBoss instructions to sanitize the resin tank using household bleach or an approved sanitizer added to the brine well, then run a full regeneration.
• Flush plumbing: Run all faucets for several minutes after sanitizing to clear stagnant water.
• Repeat periodically: In problem water areas, periodic sanitization may be necessary.
