Possible Causes

Failed control valve drive motor, Jammed rotor disc or piston assembly, Broken cam gear, Faulty position switch or encoder on Waterguy valve head

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit immediately to prevent motor damage. Place the bypass valve in BYPASS to restore water to the home if needed.

  • Inspect valve head for binding: Remove the decorative cover from the Waterguy control head. Look for obvious cracks, leaks, or broken plastic around the cam gear and rotor disc.
  • Check for obstructions: With power disconnected, gently try to rotate the cam gear by hand (if accessible). It should move smoothly through positions. If it is seized, the piston/seal pack may be jammed with debris.
  • Verify motor connection: Ensure the motor wiring harness is firmly plugged into the control board. Look for corrosion or burnt connectors.
  • Reset power: Plug the unit back in and observe if the motor attempts to index the valve. If it hums but does not move, the motor is likely failed.
  • Advanced: If comfortable, remove the motor (usually 2 screws) and test it with a low-voltage DC supply per Waterguy specifications. Replace the motor or entire valve head if it does not run freely.

If E03 persists after clearing mechanical jams, the control valve motor or cam assembly will typically need replacement.
