Possible Causes

Stuck or scaled flow turbine, Failed Hall-effect flow sensor, Broken or unplugged flow sensor harness, Debris in meter housing on Waterguy valve

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and place the bypass in BYPASS. Depressurize by opening a faucet.

  • Access flow meter: On most Waterguy softeners, the flow meter is integrated into the outlet side of the control valve. Remove the outlet union and locate the turbine or paddle wheel assembly.
  • Clean turbine: Carefully remove the turbine. Rinse under water and use a soft brush to remove iron, sand, or scale. Ensure it spins freely with a light puff of air.
  • Inspect sensor: Check the small sensor module that reads the turbine (Hall sensor). Ensure it is fully seated and the wiring harness is intact and plugged into the control board.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the turbine and outlet union, restore water and power, and run water at a faucet. Watch the display to confirm that flow is being registered.

If E05 persists and no flow is detected despite a free-spinning turbine, replace the Waterguy flow meter sensor or the entire meter housing.
