Possible Causes
High water pressure, Lack of water hammer arrestors, Loose plumbing near softener, Control valve shifting too quickly between stages
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Avoid standing directly over the unit during regeneration if severe hammering occurs.
- Measure pressure: Use a pressure gauge on a nearby faucet. If above 80 psi, install or adjust a pressure-reducing valve.
- Secure piping: Add pipe clamps or supports to loose copper/PEX lines near the Waterguy softener.
- Install hammer arrestors: Consider installing water hammer arrestors on the inlet line to absorb shock.
- Check valve operation: If hammering is extreme, the control valve may be slamming between positions due to internal wear; service or replace the valve head.
