Possible Causes
Exhausted or fouled resin bed, Bypass valve left partially open, Incorrect hardness or capacity settings, Broken distributor tube or top basket in resin tank
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before changing valve positions. Depressurize before opening any tank connections.
- Check bypass: Confirm the Waterguy bypass is fully in SERVICE, not partially in BYPASS.
- Test hardness: Use a hardness test kit on water before and after the softener. If both are similar, the resin is not exchanging properly.
- Run manual regeneration: Start a full regen and retest water after completion. If still hard, resin may be exhausted or iron-fouled.
- Inspect resin tank internals (advanced): If comfortable, remove the control valve from the resin tank and inspect the top basket and distributor tube for cracks. Replace damaged components and consider replacing the Waterguy resin media if heavily fouled.
