Possible Causes

Loose low-voltage harness between display and main board, Corroded connector on main control PCB, Failed main control PCB, Shorted keypad on front control module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Watersoft softener from power before removing any covers. Water may be under pressure; close the bypass valves if you need to move or disconnect plumbing.

  • Power reset: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then plug back in. Attempt to start a manual regeneration from the control panel. If E01 clears and does not return, it may have been a transient glitch.
  • Inspect low-voltage wiring: Remove the control cover. Locate the low-voltage harness between the display/control keypad and the main control board. Check for loose plugs, bent pins, corrosion, or moisture. Reseat all connectors firmly.
  • Check for moisture intrusion: Look for signs of condensation or salt dust on the control board. If present, gently clean with a dry, soft brush and ensure the brine tank lid and valve cover are properly sealed.
  • Keypad test: With power restored, press each button. If some buttons are unresponsive or cause E01 immediately, the front control module may be shorted and require replacement.
  • Board replacement: If wiring is sound and E01 persists, the main control PCB is likely faulty. Replace the Watersoft main control board with the exact model for your valve head. Follow the manufacturer’s wiring diagram and transfer each connector one at a time to avoid miswiring.

If you are not comfortable working around live electrical circuits, contact a qualified Watersoft service technician.
