Possible Causes

Incorrect hardness set too high, Flow meter miscalibrated or stuck, Internal leak through control valve, Programmed capacity too low for household usage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before working on the valve or electronics.

  • Review programming: Check that hardness is set to the actual tested value (plus iron compensation if applicable). Reduce hardness setting if it was overestimated.
  • Check capacity setting: Ensure the programmed capacity matches the resin volume in your Watersoft tank. Increasing capacity (within spec) will reduce regeneration frequency.
  • Inspect flow meter: Clean and verify the flow sensor/turbine is not sticking, which can overcount usage. Replace if readings are erratic.
  • Check for internal bypass leak: With the unit in service and no water running, feel the drain line. There should be no flow. Continuous trickle indicates an internal leak that can cause unnecessary regenerations; rebuild the valve piston and seals.

After adjustments, monitor salt usage over several weeks to confirm E11 does not recur.
