Control Board Over-Temperature Fault
E12 error and display shows abnormal temperature or shuts down in hot locations
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Softener installed in area exceeding rated ambient temperature, Blocked ventilation around control head, Failing temperature sensor on control board, Power components overheating on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before relocating or opening the unit.
- Check installation environment: Verify the Watersoft softener is not installed in direct sunlight, near a furnace, or in a confined unventilated closet. Ambient temperature should be within the manufacturer’s specified range.
- Improve ventilation: Ensure there is at least several inches of clearance around the control head. Remove any covers or insulation that block airflow.
- Inspect for dust and debris: Gently clean dust from the control board and housing with a dry brush or compressed air to improve heat dissipation.
- Sensor check: If accessible, locate the temperature sensor on the board and verify its connector is secure. A failed sensor may falsely report over-temperature and require board replacement.
If E12 persists in a proper environment, the control board is likely defective and should be replaced.
