Possible Causes
Damaged or worn main seal pack in Watersoft valve, Debris lodged in piston preventing full closure, Cracked valve body or drain port, Misaligned cam not returning to service position
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately place the softener in bypass to stop water waste. Unplug the unit before disassembly.
- Confirm continuous drain: With the unit in service (not regenerating), check the drain line. Any steady flow indicates an internal leak.
- Inspect piston and seals: Remove the valve cover and access the main piston/rotor and seal pack. Look for scoring, swelling, or foreign material on the piston and seals.
- Clean valve internals: Rinse the piston and valve cavity with clean water to remove sand or debris. Do not use lubricants unless specified by Watersoft.
- Replace seal kit: Install a new Watersoft seal and spacer kit if seals are worn or deformed. Follow the service manual for correct orientation.
- Check cam alignment: Ensure the drive cam returns fully to the service position after regeneration. Adjust or replace the cam if it is cracked or misaligned.
After reassembly, take the unit out of bypass and verify that the drain is dry during normal service.
