Softener appears to be stuck in bypass; water is always hard even when set to service

Safety first: Shut off water and relieve pressure before changing plumbing or bypass components.

• Check bypass handle: Ensure the Watersoft bypass is fully in the service position per the markings.
• Verify plumbing orientation: Confirm that the pipe labeled inlet is connected to the supply and outlet to the house. Correct any reversed connections.
• Inspect bypass body: If the bypass valve is old or stiff, its internal seals may be damaged. Replace the Watersoft bypass assembly.
• Internal leak check: If plumbing and bypass are correct, internal valve seals may be bypassing hard water; rebuild the valve with a seal and spacer kit.
