Possible Causes
Clogged inlet screen, Fouled or channelled resin bed, Undersized Watersoft resin tank for flow demand, Partially closed bypass or isolation valves
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off water and relieve pressure before removing any fittings.
- Bypass test: Place the Watersoft unit in bypass. If pressure improves, the restriction is inside the softener.
- Clean inlet screen: Remove and clean the inlet screen or filter basket on the valve.
- Check valves: Ensure the bypass and any isolation valves are fully open when in service.
- Resin condition: If the resin is heavily fouled with iron or sediment, consider cleaning with a resin cleaner or replacing the resin.
- Flow demand vs size: If your household has very high flow (multiple showers, irrigation), consult Watersoft sizing charts; an undersized unit will cause pressure drop and may need upgrading.
