Possible Causes

Air entrained in water after service or plumbing work, Fine resin beads escaping tank, High dissolved solids causing temporary cloudiness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If water is discolored (brown/black) or has particles, do not drink until the cause is identified.

  • Air dissipation test: Fill a clear glass with water and let it sit for a few minutes. If cloudiness clears from bottom up, it is likely just air and usually harmless.
  • Check for resin beads: Look for tiny amber or yellow beads in strainers or aerators. If present, the Watersoft bottom distributor or riser tube may be cracked.
  • Inspect internal distributors: Depressurize and disconnect the resin tank. Remove the control valve and inspect the riser tube and bottom distributor for cracks. Replace damaged parts.
  • Flush system: After repairs or new installation, flush several tank volumes of water through the system to clear trapped air and fines.
