Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and place the softener in bypass using the bypass valve before disassembling the valve head.
Steps:
- Check for mechanical obstruction: Remove the top cover and inspect the valve cam and gear train. Look for broken teeth, foreign objects, or misalignment.
- Manually rotate cam: With power off, gently rotate the cam through a full cycle. If it binds or locks at certain points, the rotor and seal assembly may be swollen or debris may be lodged in the valve body.
- Inspect rotor and seal: Shut off water and relieve pressure by opening a nearby soft water faucet. Remove the valve cover screws and carefully pull out the rotor and seal assembly. Check for scoring, swelling, or foreign material.
- Clean valve body: Wipe the valve cavity with a clean, lint-free cloth. Remove any sand, resin beads, or scale.
- Reassemble with new parts if needed: If the rotor is worn or distorted, install a new rotor and seal kit specific to Whirlpool Pro Series. Lubricate O-rings with food-grade silicone grease only.
Final check: Reassemble the valve, return the bypass to service, restore power, and initiate a manual regeneration. If ERR2 persists, the drive motor or control board may also need replacement.
