Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the softener and place it in bypass before adjusting the valve head.
Steps:
- Inspect cam alignment: Remove the valve cover and verify that the cam is correctly aligned with the rotor and position switch. Look for missing alignment marks or slipped gears.
- Check position switch: Ensure the position switch actuator rides properly on the cam and is not bent or broken. Verify the switch is firmly mounted.
- Re-seat valve head: If the valve head was recently removed, confirm it is seated correctly on the tank and not rotated out of position.
- Perform a manual index: With power off, manually rotate the cam to the service position as indicated in the service manual. Restore power and see if ERR9 clears.
Resolution: Replace the rotor position switch or the complete valve head assembly if calibration cannot be restored. If mechanical parts are correct but ERR9 persists, the electronic control board may need replacement.
