Possible Causes
Salt bridge in brine tank, Clogged brine well, Faulty salt level sensor (if equipped), Incorrect salt type or pellet quality
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Wear gloves when handling salt and brine. Unplug the unit if you will be working near wiring or sensors in the brine tank.
Steps:
- Check for salt bridge: Use a broom handle or similar tool to gently push down into the salt. If you feel a hard crust with empty space underneath, break up the bridge so salt can fall into the water.
- Inspect brine level: Ensure there is several inches of water at the bottom of the brine tank. If the tank is completely dry, the brine refill may not be working.
- Clean brine well: Remove the brine well cover and float assembly. Clean out any sludge or salt buildup that could interfere with sensors or the float.
- Check salt sensor (if present): Some Whirlpool Pro Series models use a salt level probe or optical sensor. Inspect the sensor for salt crust and clean with warm water. Ensure the wiring is intact.
Resolution: If LO SALT persists despite adequate salt and a clean brine tank, replace the salt level sensor or brine float assembly as applicable to your model.
