Possible Causes

Debris in control valve, Broken or collapsed riser/distributor tube, Resin bed compaction, Inlet screen clogged

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Immediately place the softener in bypass to restore water to the home if possible. Shut off power before disassembly.

Steps:

  • Check bypass: Confirm the bypass valve is fully in service position and not partially closed.
  • Inspect inlet screen: Remove the inlet connection and check for a screen or filter that may be clogged with sediment.
  • Remove valve head: Depressurize the system and remove the valve head from the mineral tank. Inspect the top of the resin bed and the distributor tube opening for blockages.
  • Check distributor tube: Verify the riser/distributor tube is not cracked, collapsed, or obstructed by resin.

Resolution: Clear any debris and reassemble. If the distributor tube is damaged, replace the distributor/riser tube. If resin is severely compacted, replace the resin media and flush the tank.
