Softener causes a plastic or electrical burning smell near the control head

Safety: Immediately unplug the unit and place it in bypass. Do not continue to operate a softener that smells like burning plastic or electronics.

• Inspect visually: Remove the control cover and look for discolored, melted, or burnt components on the control board, motor, or wiring.
• Check transformer: Feel the transformer (carefully) after brief operation; if it becomes excessively hot, it may be failing.
• Inspect motor: Check the drive motor for signs of overheating or melted insulation.
