Possible Causes

Drive motor failure, Jammed rotor and seal, Faulty position switch, Control board not advancing cycle

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Place the softener in bypass and unplug it before working on the valve head.

Steps:

  • Manually advance: If your model has a manual advance knob or button, attempt to step the unit through each regeneration stage back to service. Note where it stops.
  • Inspect motor and gears: Remove the valve cover and check the drive motor and gear train for damage or binding.
  • Check rotor and seal: If the valve is difficult to turn by hand, remove and inspect the rotor and seal assembly for swelling or debris.
  • Verify position switch: Ensure the position switch is actuated properly by the cam and that its wiring is intact.

Resolution: Replace the drive motor assembly or rotor and seal assembly as indicated by your inspection. If mechanical parts are good but the cycle will not advance, replace the electronic control board.
