Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before removing the valve cover. Place the softener in bypass if you will be disassembling the valve.
Steps:
- Observe noise source: Start a manual regeneration and listen closely to identify whether the noise comes from the motor/gear area or the valve body.
- Inspect gears: Remove the valve cover and examine the gear train for missing teeth, cracks, or misalignment.
- Check motor mount: Ensure the drive motor is securely fastened and not vibrating against the housing.
- Inspect rotor and cam: Look for debris or damage on the cam surfaces that could cause knocking as it rotates.
Resolution: Replace the gear kit or complete drive motor assembly if gears are worn or noisy. If the rotor is binding, replace the rotor and seal assembly.
