Over-Sensitive Metering or Misprogrammed Capacity
Softener regenerates too frequently even with normal water use
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Hardness set too high, Capacity set too low, Flow meter over-counting, Excessive day-override setting
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No internal electrical work is needed for programming changes. Unplug only if opening the control housing.
Steps:
- Review hardness: Test your water hardness and adjust the setting to match actual conditions.
- Increase capacity: If set very low, increase the grain capacity within the limits recommended for your resin volume.
- Check day-override: Ensure the day-override is not set to a very low number (e.g., 1–2 days) unless truly needed.
- Inspect flow meter: If regenerations still occur too often, inspect and clean or replace the turbine flow meter.
Resolution: Replace the turbine flow meter assembly if it is miscounting usage. Persistent issues may require control board replacement.
