Possible Causes
Worn keypad membrane, Moisture under keypad, Loose ribbon cable, Damaged user interface board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the softener before removing the control cover.
Steps to check:
- 1. Dry and clean: Remove the control cover and inspect for moisture or condensation. Dry gently with a soft cloth.
- 2. Reseat ribbon cable: Disconnect and reconnect the keypad ribbon cable to the control board.
- 3. Test each button: After reassembly, plug in and test all buttons. If some remain unresponsive, the keypad is likely defective.
- 4. Replace keypad/UI assembly: Install a new Whirlpool user interface or control cover assembly as specified for your model.
When to call a technician: If replacing the keypad does not restore function, the main control board may also be faulty.
